This project was in 2015. It is a Beach Resort with a combination of Antique Museum in conjunction with some ancient airplanes on display in Vung Tau, Viet Nam. I was in charge of concept design as well as other graphics for this. The whole project is split into two phases due to construction. For the first phase, we design a restaurant including swimming pool and bungalows along the beach. The second phase is a real challenge because we almost design a new resort with different types of buildings and functions , including two new hotels, one restaurant, one conference center, one museum and an artificial lake in the forest. Moreover, it is an environmentally sensitive area with a creek passing through. Therefore, landscape design and environment protection are extremely important there. During the process of project, sometimes we get disapproval from local communities. It is like a kind of “Bottom –Up” planning because we try to convince them that a new project for tourism will use local human resource and bring benefit to economic development. On the other hand, it is important to have a commitment to environment.
At that time, it was one of my best projects and the experience was so meaningful to me. Because I was the chief designer and had chances to went through this project, step by step! Besides, this project was a great opportunity for me to acquire practical experience, to manage information to facilitate work flow. Some skills I got from this: improving my skill of design, managerial skills, verbal presentation, especially negotiation skill for team works and dealing with clients.
Since this, I realize that Landscape is an important part of design. Especially when Sustainability has become a new trend of development. Landscape is benefical to make green spaces for everyone to use, create new ecology to preserve natural environment. On the other hand, we are consultants, that means we also design for commercial purposes. Therefore, it is important to balance between environment and socio-economy. Personally I think this is the most difficult part of this project.
